Preparation for Hurricane Irma

Published on 9/7/2017
Friends, we are writing to urge everyone to prepare for potentially severe weather in the coming week.  While the 5-day projections of Hurricane Irma's path are theoretical, the current path for next Tuesday morning projects Hurricane Irma on track toward Western NC:

While we do not wish to alarm our members, we believe it is crucial that we prepare for the likelihood of a severe storm that may include loss of power for several days.  To that end we urge you to make sure you have on hand:

1.  Adequate drinking water in case of a power outage.  Ready.gov recommends at least one gallon per person per day.
2.  At least a three day supply of non-perishable food.
3.  Working flashlights and enough batteries to power them.
4.  If you use prescription medicines, make sure you have enough medicine to last you through the end of next week.  If you need help refilling medicines call Karin Rolett at 828-675-9671.
5.  If you have a car, fill the gas tank.  If the storm comes our way, move your car to a place where it will not be impacted by flooding water or falling trees.

You may find further information on preparing an emergency kit for the storm at the following link:

While we don't know the future, recent images from Texas are a powerful reminder that we should do all we can in advance to prepare for a very severe storm.  If MY Neighbors can help, please call us at 1-828-295-2412 or email us at myneighborsmail@gmail.com
